Adulthood
is not a random experience between childhood and
death, but has a purpose. Thus there are four
principal duties or aims of life (purusharthas):
dharma (knowing and doing what is right at each
moment), artha (gaining material wealth), kama
(aesthetic pleasure and satisfaction of physical
desires), and moksha (marriage to God). To
be fully happy, an adult will need to have fulfilled
a number of tasks, including some or all of the
following:
