Adulthood is not a random experience between childhood and death, but has a purpose. Thus there are four principal duties or aims of life (purusharthas): dharma (knowing and doing what is right at each moment), artha (gaining material wealth), kama (aesthetic pleasure and satisfaction of physical desires), and moksha (marriage to God). To be fully happy, an adult will need to have fulfilled a number of tasks, including some or all of the following:

  • Responsibility
  • Obtaining Money
  • Raising Children
  • Being Generous
  • Helping Society
  • Looking after a Spouse
  • Looking after Elders
  • Personal Development
  • Finding Your Life's Purpose
  • Preparing for Retirement
  • Enjoying Life
  • Experiencing Sexual Fulfilment
  • Exercise
  • Spiritual Development
  • Religious Development
